What Families Are Saying…

The best book for new recruit parents.

After searching the internet and talking to people about recruit training at Parris Island, I came across this book. As soon as I opened it, I couldn’t put it down! It was so helpful to learn, in depth, about every stage of training my son would go through, what steps I needed to take to make it through, AND the planning I needed to take care of before Graduation Week! There are so many activities leading up to Graduation that Parents really need to take full advantage of while they are there! I would give this book a solid 10 out of 10 every time! Thank you, Vera, for a wonderfully helpful book!

Helpful and relevant.

I purchased this book when my daughter went to the Marines bootcamp in Parris Island. I am happy for doing so, it’s very detailed, with very comprehensive information, and lots of resources such as links to more information and videos. It helps families in this process to understand the recruit’s new life. I wish it had more information about the females training, maybe it can be added to it. Thank you for writing this book.

Great for parents and significant others.

Ordered two copies of this book when my son left for Parris Island at the end of July. One for me and one for his girlfriend. Very informative and detailed. Read the entire book in a single sit and keeping for referencing throughout the remainder of Recruit Training. I love it.

About Vera Basilone

Vera Basilone understands the unique anxiety that comes with sending a loved one to Marine Corps boot camp. When she founded ParrisIsland.com, she saw that while official resources explained the logistics, families needed practical tools to stay connected through the hardest 13 weeks of separation.

The Parris Island Planner grew out of countless conversations with parents and loved ones who felt helpless and disconnected.

Vera realized families didn’t just need to know what was happening – they needed guidance on how to cope with it happening.

For over five years, Vera has helped families navigate this journey with greater confidence and connection. Her approach blends clear, practical military knowledge with the emotional insight that only comes from living the Marine Corps life herself.

As the wife of GySgt Michael Basilone, she spent years alongside him at duty stations across the country and overseas, later working at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot for nearly a decade.

Today, she lives in Beaufort, South Carolina with her husband, Michael, continuing her mission to support Marine families with both information and heart.

Vera’s speculative fiction work, The Annex, can be found here.
