Can a Marine Recruit receive E-2 pay while going through boot camp?  I saw this great question on-line a few weeks ago and decided to find an answer.

An E-2 is the pay grade for a Private First Class or PFC.  It is one pay grade higher than E-1, the pay grade for a Private.  Higher rank equals additional pay.  If your son or daughter can qualify for PFC pay during boot camp that’s something worth looking into.

According to local recruiting personnel, Marine Recruits may receive E-2 pay throughout training if they meet any one of the following requirements:

• They possess an Associate Degree from an accredited College/University
• Earned 15 Semester hours or 22 quarter hours of college classroom work
• If they participated in two years high school JROTC, (Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps)
• Obtained E-5 rank in the Young Marines
• If  he is an Eagle Scout
• If she received the Gold Award as a Girl Scout
• If they provide two referrals that join the Marine Corps

Opportunities change from time to time so check with your local recruiter for good scoop on ways your son or daughter can receive E-2 pay while in boot camp.

More money isn’t the only benefit.  The recruit will be promoted and graduate as a PFC (Private First Class) and have additional time in grade (TIG), which will help them get promoted to Lance Corporal (E-3 pay grade) faster.
