The first post I wrote for this site contained 3 tips for visiting Parris Island. Those tips are still good but it’s time for a newer post filled with more ideas to get you thinking about what to take with you when you travel to see your new Marine’s graduation. ParrisIsland.com is an Amazon Affiliate and we will earn a small commission (at no cost to you), when you purchase items through these links. Thank you for supporting the site. Here are five must have Products for your trip to Parris Island:
1. Seat Cushion for the long drive, your flight or the hard stadium seats on graduation day. There are so many types to choose from but no matter what kind you decide to get, you won’t regret having a fluffy seat to make you comfortable during your travels and while touring the base. One option I like is this one from Comfilife. It has foam and gel to help keep its shape; the cover is machine washable; it has a non-slip rubber bottom to keep it from moving around and it has a handle on the side to carry it where ever you need it.

2. Fanny Packs like the one shown are so practical for walking around Parris Island. I especially like the ones that have a place for a water bottle. This large fanny pack by NOOLA has room for your cell phone, keys, ID and some cash so you can walk around the base hands free. It is made for both men and women. When you get home, you can use it for your daily walk around the block.

3. Antiperspirant like Secret brand made with a clear gel to keep it from showing on your clothes, comes in a Lavender scent that will keep you looking and smelling fresh all day in the hot, humid Carolina sun. Don’t like the smell of Lavender? That’s okay, Secret comes in many pleasant scents. For the men in your life, try Old Spice deodorant. It’s a classic and you can buy it with the original scent or try some of the new varieties. They also make aluminum free deodorant.

4. Activities for the kids – Hand held electronic game systems keep kids of all ages busy for hours. Download games and movies for them to watch before you leave. Don’t like downloading games? Buy game cartridges instead like this one of Spongebob for the Switch. Make sure you read the description to make sure your getting the physical product and not a digital download.
If your looking for a less expensive option, activity books, coloring books, (like the Parris Island Coloring book) , or travel games like” …I should have known that,” a trivia game with quirky trivia, like “How long does Sleeping Beauty Sleep?” will keep the whole family entertained. The answers are on the back of each card.

5. Insect Repellent is a must have item for Parris Island. It doesn’t matter what time of year you are here, we have insects that bite. Mosquitoes never go out of season. Sand fleas are affectionately called “no seeums” but you feels them when they leave welts on your scalp, arms and any other place they attack. We use Skin so Soft or No Natz.

Amazon works well for military families for a number of reasons: 1) Many items arrive in 2 or 3 days. 2) With a Prime membership you get free shipping on most of the items you buy, (actually I don’t buy it if I can’t get free shipping). 3) Your Prime membership will give you access to free movies and books all year long.
Consider giving an Amazon Prime membership as a gift for your family members in the military.
