The Marine Corps will begin a new staging process for Parris Island poolees beginning on May 4, 2020.  Below is a copy of a post from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island Facebook page:

“As an additional measure against COVID-19, the Marine Corps implemented a 14-day staging period for every poolee arriving to Marine Corps Recruit Depots Parris Island and San Diego. Staging is one portion of aggressive mitigation efforts being employed at recruit training to combat COVID-19.

MCRD Parris Island hosted our initial staging effort at an Expeditionary Staging Area constructed aboard the depot when shipping resumed April 20th. During that period we continued to pursue other staging opportunities to further harden our posture against COVID-19 and prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.

Beginning May 4th (this Monday), poolees arriving to recruit training will travel directly to The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and will complete the 14-day staging period aboard the campus. The ability to conduct staging of poolees in hard structure berthing, as well as on-site laundry, infirmary, and mess facilities, led MCRD Parris Island to a temporary partnership with The Citadel. This partnership enables our continuing mission of making Marines while enhancing our staging capabilities and preparation for potential destructive weather.

While in staging, each poolee will be screened and observed by medical care providers twice daily for the duration of the two-week period. Approximately 600 personnel and 300 poolees will be housed at The Citadel. The movement of personnel will be restricted to campus grounds as a preventative measure to reduce potential community spread for all parties. The function of the staging process remains the health and wellness of all poolees in our charge as they prepare to face the challenge of recruit training.

Following the two-week staging period, poolees will be transported to MCRD Parris Island to officially begin recruit training and their journey to earn the title of United States Marine.”
